Drug addiction is commonly defined as compulsive consumption of drugs. This compulsive consumption can severely damage the mental and physical health of an individual. When ever addict is denied the drugs, he or she can become aggressive, violent and upset. Prolonged addiction can result in complete lack of self control.

But this is an illusion and after getting used to the drugs it becomes almost impossible for a person to stop taking drugs. Mental or psychological problems consist of problems related to though process, once this thought process becomes disturbed, it becomes very difficult for an individual to control his action and emotion. This disturbance can be caused due to a emotional trauma or anything else that can have a powerful impact on human mind. If some family members also have a history of drug addiction then the chances of kids developing addiction becomes much higher than the kids in normal families. Physiological diseases can also cause drug addiction. Genetic structure of a individual can also cause drug addiction by making an individual naturally inclined towards drug use.
Drug addiction just like any other disease, it can be cured using various psychological and physiological treatments. Since drug addiction also has psychological side to it, so treatment must take care of its mental part also. In the most common form of treatment a drug addict is taken into a drug addiction treatment center or drug rehabilitation. Many people also call it simply a drug rehab.
